Today I take you with me on an exciting journey to discover Guadalajara, an enchanting city in the heart of Mexico.
I was lucky enough to spend a few unforgettable weeks here in March last year, and I want to share with you the beauty of this breathtaking destination. After a few weeks of melancholy, I finally found my emotional stability in this vibrant city, surrounded by two friends I hadn’t seen in a long time and a few I met along the way.
As often, I stayed at Selina, my favorite hostel chain that you have come to know with me by now.
Guadalajara: A fascinating fusion of culture and architecture
Guadalajara is a city that captures the soul with its vibrancy and cultural charm. From the first moment, I was captivated by its magnificent architecture and picturesque streets. The architecture in the historic center is a fusion of styles, with the majestic Metropolitan Cathedral standing as a Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical masterpiece. Walking through Plaza de Armas, a lively and welcoming plaza, I breathed in the authentic atmosphere of the city and immersed myself in the daily life of its inhabitants.
Art, architectural and cultural treasures
Guadalajara offers a rich cultural heritage and a number of attractions that will leave you breathless. A must-see is the Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres, a monument celebrating the great people of Jalisco. Statues of José Clemente Orozco, Dr. Atl and Luis Barragán are testaments to the city’s artistic talent. Another must-see is the Instituto Cultural de Cabañas, a former hospital complex that houses Orozco’s famous murals. These works of art are a veritable treasure trove, combining indigenous Mexican culture with the history of the Spanish conquest.
Things to do nearby
In addition to the main attractions, Guadalajara offers a number of unique experiences in its surroundings. One of the most fascinating activities is exploring the ancient Mesoamerican ruins in the archaeological zone of Teuchitlán. You can immerse yourself in history and admire the majestic remains of ancient civilizations. If you are a nature lover, I recommend a visit to Bosque Colomos Park, an oasis of tranquility with its paths surrounded by greenery, Mexican gardens, and a fascinating Japanese garden.
My Guadalajara
My experience in Guadalajara was unforgettable and perhaps one of the best moments during my trip to Mexico in 2022. Every day was an adventure, exploring the city and discovering its hidden treasures.
I savored traditional Mexican cuisine, delighting in the authentic flavors of tacos, tamales, and spicy salsas. But most precious of all were the moments spent with my friends, sharing laughter, travel tales, and creating indelible memories.
Guadalajara is a city that enchants and captivates, a destination that opens doors to a vibrant culture and a world of wonder. I have left a piece of my heart in this city, and I hope that one day you, too, will have an unforgettable experience like mine.
Open your minds, embrace new cultures and be transported by the timeless beauty of Guadalajara. Enjoy your trip!
